1967 flying V

Played a Flying V Gibby saturday. Girl told me it was a 67 model, but the serial started out with 65. Could this be? It was in rough shape but they were asking $2800 for it.. However, it played like butter and sustained great and had a big sound unplugged. Looked like it had the stock neck pup and an ancient super distortion in it.. Overpriced? Were the headstocks 3 pieces on those? Centerblock and then wings?? At first I thought it was cracked but noticed both sides were like that..

Re: 1967 flying V

67 would have been the first reissue of the V. If it was a '67 V RI, which has been done...

As far as I'm aware, the V headstocks are 3 piece. As far as I'm aware, $2800 isn't a bad price- they're not too common these days.

Post it in "the other Gibsons" forum at the Les Paul Forum...

Re: 1967 flying V

Les Paul headstocks are 3 piece as well- the main one piece running the length of the neck, then on the headstock one piece on each side to sipport the tuners

Where did you see it? And don't worry . . . at that price, I won't go and buy it out from under you. :D

Re: 1967 flying V

Dude i honestly would have tried to rip off the store. would have shown them some "damage" that the guitar has...then again i dont know anything about your budget so...

It definetly sounds like it would have been worth the money...and if anything it can be sold on eBay.

Re: 1967 flying V

My budget??? hahahahahaa I work three jobs trying to feed my 5 kids and a spouse thats a Full time student.. (now starting divorce proceedings and having to sell some gear)
I did show them the missing strap button, broken pickguard etc.. They dont budge there.. About 7 yrs ago, they had a LP standard there that was really Ratty.. worn saddles, corroded screws etc. They want $1800. I showed them catalogs where I could get new ones cheaper and pointed out all the damage and showed them it would cost me $400 to make it nice and they wouldnt budge.. Took them 5 yrs but some clown bought it..
