1981 Marshall JCM800 4104 50 watt combo

Up for sale is my Marshall 2x12 JCM800 combo.

I purchased this from B2D about 15 months ago. He was the second owner, I'm the third, and hopefully another forum brother can be the fourth.

Notes on the amp (some of them straight from the fingers of Brendan):

The amp was originally an "American" JCM800, the export model that came with 6550's. I had the amp's bias section rebuilt to accept EL34s. These amps do not have bias pots and require the addition and subtraction of resistors in the bias section to bias the amp. This was done in mid-'03, almost a year after i bought the amp.

3 12AX7's in the pre-amp section, 2 EL34's for power.

Stock Rola-Celestion G12 65 speakers.

Vertical inputs (low, high gain).

Drake transformers.

I'm selling the amp for a couple reasons.

1. I've taken a liking to my ampeg cabinet, and now exclusively use that 4x10. 12's just don't do it for me anymore.

2. I'll be making a major move across the country within a year, and I want to consolodate my gear. Therefore I'd much rather have a head than a combo.

3. I've decided that I want an amp with independent clean and distorted channels. What's more is I want this amp to be an Egnater, or something designed by him.

I'm looking to get $650 for the amp. This includes shipping within the continental United States.

If you've got a multi-channel head you think I might be interested in, let me know because i'm up for trades. However, I'm really looking for an Egnater TOL50 or a Randall RM50, so I may not be up for anything else (but please don't hesitate to offer. I could be persuaded into something different).

Now some pictures with a couple additional notes:

The little silver cap on the presence knob jumped off sometime ago. The little pointer still makes it easy to set the control.

The original nut on the low gain input wouldn't stay on, so i replaced it with a Sovtek nut that has stayed on without any trouble. I still have the original nut if you would prefer it.

Please feel free to ask any questions about the amp, make me an offer, request more pics, etc.

Thanks!

Those are my exact words taken from a PM, I'm just confirming for y'all.

*gazes at pics and remembers what good times we had*

I gotta warn y'all if you're looking for a loud-ass combo look no further, this thing absolutely SLAYED any 100W 1/2 stack it went up against!

And I'd like to comment on the notes on modifications... I just stuck a small peice of masking tape on the chassis with a date as to when I changed the tube so I could keep track of it and the tech who modded the amp followed suit. ...it's kinda weird looking at those 3 tabs that are in my own handwriting. :laugh2:

She looks gorgeous, mig! Thanks for taking good care of her!

man, i wish i had money now. I've been looking for a marshall 50-watt 2x12. I was gonna get a head and make a cab but this would have been good. Too bad i cant work until the summer, and i'm probably gonna get a JV start with it. can't get everything you want i guess.

Re: 1981 Marshall JCM800 4104 50 watt combo

wow, looks like i have pretty bad timing with selling this amp. seems that everyone wants it but can't afford it right now. oh well.

+1 :(

Re: 1981 Marshall JCM800 4104 50 watt combo

But what I really want to know is...

I just bought a white tolex 1983 4104 with same speakers and EL-34... has the SLP style toggle switches... how do you like yours?
