1983-1987 Duncan mystery pickup

Hi!

Im stuck trying to ID a pickup.

Its Big logo Long leg Base plate (1983-1987)
Red poly wire
Square hole butyrate bobbin ( no ring like 59)
Bobbins read 8.4k@21c 4.25k/4.15k

Wire is trough the bobbin bottom hole like 59.

So its not 59 due to wrong wire and bobbin
And its not jazz or aph1bj due to its to hot and connector cable is 59 style trough bobbin hole.

Could it be pearly?
Can someone confirm bobbin cable on pearly ?

I thought you actually had a APH1B measuring 8.4K? Do the bobbins have the Seymour Duncan logo?

AFAIK, PGs came with short legs, 4-con wire and have the logo on the bobbins; but the wire should be PE, not red Poly.

Maybe this one is a Custom Floor order? Or is just a mutt? :dunno:

This is not from my aph collection.
I got some 59, jb, seymourizer also :)

Note the mid bobbin hole cable routing

Its pre 88. Post 83.
Big logo Long leg Base plate
Braided wire
No logo mid 80s butyrate bobbin.

Can you confirm the Cable routing on vintage pearly Gates?
Wire is poly.
Did early pearly use poly?

I don't have a definitive answer, man; sorry. This is one an odd one, specially if the bobbins are butyrate.

Also, it seems to be a big amount of potting material, if you ask me. I haven't really seen the inside of a lot of Duncan p'ups from mid '80s , I must admit.

I don't think Duncan uses poly on Butyrate unless is an Antiquity Jazz or JB.

I stick to the theory of being a non-stock p'up. A trasplant of bobbins onto a Duncan baseplate, maybe?

That's a case for conspiracy theorists... ;)

If I recall correctly, the Jazz uses poly wire.

Also, the Pearly Gates was offered with butyrate bobbins and no top logo at that time (big logo baseplate, no "Made in America"), but the magnet wire is the same plain enamel as the '59.

So strange

Bobbin is normal duncan 83-87 jazz, jb, aph
The wire is mid 80s red. Not copper like pre logo baseplate and not plain enamel brown.
A2 duncan magnet.
Its 100% identical to jazz or aph exept for the cable in bobbin hole.
And ~0.2k higher reading.

And it was 100% original until I opened it.

Nevermind the vax.
Its from my bench :)

I need to call MJ and or Evan.
Maby Frank knows if the poly wire and cable trough bobbin is 80s pearly.

PG was offered with long legs on its baseplate.

Re: 1983-1987 Duncan mystery pickup

Is there any magic marker on the magnet? If not, do you get a sense that its A5 from the gauss strength? (Granted, the gauss could be all over the map by now)
