And ive checked ALL magnets.
Some have lost the marker.

Some look black.
I bet atleast one had A5.
And one vintage jazz with A2.

Then there are the no brainers with lots of markings with clear blue

Maybe Frank can show this to MJ?
I can't show it to anyone. I haven't worked there for over 2 years. But if I were to make a judgement call I would say that the cable exit through the bottom is meaningless. It could have been how they did Jazz/A2Pro's for awhile, it could have been force of habit when the winder finished at batch of 59's and started a batch of Jazz/A2Pros. It's not an identifying trait in my opinion for a 1980's Duncan.

The simplest explanation is that it's a Jazz/A2Pro (you'll need to be able to identify the magnet type for that) and it reads high. If it were wound as a Pearly Gates or 59 it would mean someone made an error in the wire type, or they ran out of Plain Enamel and someone decided to use Poly to get the order out the door. But that's all speculation based on my knowledge of manufacturing. It has nothing to do with the fact that I worked there. Its just a guess.

Edit: In light of your photo, I'm not sure that wire ISN'T Plain Enamel. It can be lighter brown. For now I would assume it's just a garden variety 59, maybe a PG.

Re: 1983-1987 Duncan mystery pickup

Here are some 83-87 era jazz and aph.

Its not bright red as my 2 NOS APH.
But they are all blood red.

A2 magnet :)

typically, you'll see copper and red and a brown/purple. might have meant a little more back then. these days, they can have whatever wire tinted to whatever color.

The 80-83 no logo baseplate jazz are copper and 83-87 are red.
All vintage aph are red due to intro ~86
Blood red from 88

And all of my 59 are really brown.

I tried to take a comparision pic but its to dark to capture the wire differences.
