1st gen Lil 78. Can you put a cover on it?

Hello,

I have an older 1st gen lil 78 in both the neck and bridge. They both sound great but every once in a while the high E strings gets stuck under the neck pickup cover (this is probably why the changed it to a plastic cover). Has anyone been able to solve for this other than replacing the neck pickup? Thanks.
 
You could take it out and wrap it up a little heavier with black ribbon. I could be wrong but I don't think you're gonna have too much luck with adding a cover. Someone with more experience on that front should chime in soon.
 
I don't think anyone would make a cover to fit that. But I have never tried that pickup. How close to a regular humbucker does it come?
