so i just ordered and epi valve jr head, and i need a good speaker cab to go along with it. as of right now i am trying to decide between an Avatar 112 with a celestion v30, or a Geezer Sound 112 with a v30. Anybody have any experience with either of these cabinets? should i look into any others? basically i want a decent cab for the valve jr head that is easy on the wallet (250$ is my max). thanks for the help.

Re: 1x12 speaker cabinets

It looks like Avatar will make you a partial open back, and Geezer won't. They seem like virtually the same cabinet. I like closed back 1x12's myself. But with that little Valve Jr. you may want that open, airy Fender Champ tone, with the speaker freely pumping away. A closed 1x12 is tighter (obviously) but it deadens the flubbiness more, too. It's a lot different than a closed 2x12 or 4x12 because they cumulatively have more air, so even with more speakers moving, they're still looser sounding. A closed 1x12 is very constipated in the low end, but it's also dark sounding at the same time. I love it with Boogies or with a little rack setup. But for that Valve Jr. I would suggest Avatar's open back. Maybe Geezer has an open back too. I didn't see one on their site.

it's just hard to beat avatar's price's and construction. i have an open back
2x12, i love it. i plan on getting a 1x12 soon

Re: 1x12 speaker cabinets

Well, Geezer is beating their price on the closed 1x12 so it seems. I'd add to my first post that if you're going closed back, Geezer is a little less, and I kind of like the looks of that guy. :)

I think you made the right decision . . . a closed back v30 sounds better IMO
