2-10" guitar cabinet?

You usually see a 1-10" or 4-10" cab. Why not many 2-10"s? Seems like it would have its place.

Discuss.

Re: 2-10" guitar cabinet?

I have two of them. I think they're great, but a lot of guitarists probably prefer the 12's. I have 2x12's too, and usually I use the 10's in conjunction with the 12's, so I guess I'm even one of those guys, too.

Re: 2-10" guitar cabinet?

It seems to me a 1x10 is chosen less for tone, and more for ultra portability. 4x10s aren't portable, but they sound great.

I knew someone w/a 2x10 cab, w/mojotone spkrs. It was OK, but IMHO, it did not sound as good as a decent 1x12, and it was about the same size. Just a guess!

+1-Great for a Bass rig thoogh.

I guess if it really kicked arse, you'd see them all over huh.

Re: 2-10" guitar cabinet?

I really like them, the 10s are less likely to get washed out in the mix than the 12s. 10s AND 12s sound REALLY cool though.

Size of 2X10 is greater than 1X12 and always sounds better.

Re: 2-10" guitar cabinet?

I don't mean to generalize, because there is as much variation in speaker design, power, flex, tone, etc., as there is in pickups.

but, vs. a 12", a 10" is going to give a quicker, snappier response and will be more focused.

I can't say why there aren't more 2-10's out there. Fuch's makes a 2-8 in their 7w Lucky 7!:smokin:

I've always preferred a 2-12 over a 1-12, and I think I'd like a 2-10 over a 1-12, but I've never spent any great length of time w/ anything other than 2-12s.

Re: 2-10" guitar cabinet?

Looking at Antique Electronic's catalog last night, I was thinking it'd be cool do design a tiny stack with two 4-8" cabs or something.

Re: 2-10" guitar cabinet?

I was just thinking this the other day. I have a 4x12 and I would like to drop a 2x10 on top of it as well. Might work really well...

Man, the bass player in my band recently picked up an 8x10" cabinet from Ampeg. It's a monster!

I bet that would be a sweet setup. The treble and the bass as it were.

Re: 2-10" guitar cabinet?

I happen to love 2x10 set ups, that said it is easier to find killer 12's IMO that it is to find killer 10's.

I recently tried a Marshall 4x12 loaded with Celestion G1035L's and was very impressed by that cab!

Re: 2-10" guitar cabinet?

2x10 cabs have their niche, but most cab layouts are overshadowed by the popularity of the image of a full stack of 4x12s.

Re: 2-10" guitar cabinet?

I have a '63 BF/blonde Tremolux with 2x10 cab. It's a great size and has plenty of low end. I think a new pair of Jensen Neo 10s would turn it into a compact, lightweight little monster.

Re: 2-10" guitar cabinet?

I had a 4x10 cab that I wish I still owned. It sounded great - way better than a 2x12 and had a ton of bass response. Also, I could fit it into the trunk of my corrolla which is why I will probably buy another in the future. I don't know why everyone has to get the 4x12 if it does not even fit in smaller cars...let me tell you that the 4x10 competed with a nother 1/2 stack - marshall and sounded great!!

nice!

Re: 2-10" guitar cabinet?

Yeah, my 4x10 handles up to 300 watts. I think the 4x12 full stack configurations is so desirable because of image. There are a number of 2x12 cabs that, with the right speakers, can hold their own against 4x12s.

Re: 2-10" guitar cabinet?

true - image is the thing. I hope to get a smaller head for aesthetics - so the cab is not smaller widthwise than the head - I am thinking dual recto because I like the way they sound at Guitar Center - but far in the future as I am kicking around ideas for now
