2 HB coil split wiring question.

Okay so here's the question. The guitar has 2 humbuckers with coil split function. I changed the wiring so that the coil split has the screw coil active in the neck HB, with the bridge pup unchanged (slug coil active with coil split).

There are two ways of doing this: swap the green and black wire on the neck pup, or wire the green and black together toward the push-pull switch, white goes to ground and red is hot (see pic).

In both cases, this sort of wiring puts the two humbuckers out of phase with each other; middle position sounds quacky in both instances.

Is there a way to wire this so that I have both humbuckers in series when the pickup selector switch is in the middle?

Hope you can help.
Thanks.

The easy way to switch which coil gets cut is instead of connecting the series connection to ground, connect to hot. That bypasses the opposite coil. Leave the rest of the wiring the same for both pickups.

Why not just use the standard S-D wiring diagram (see below) and use the north (plain slug) coils in coil split mode?

We can the think more clearly about using a second push-pull for a series/parallel option.

First thing I would do is a few simple bench tests.

For each pickup I would verify the following:

Red to green continuity check and Ohms reading.
Black to white continuity check and Ohms reading.

If all is well proceed with below:

For each pickup take ONE coil wire pair (red and green or black and white) and verify which set of slugs they are matched to.

You can do this using a spare cable jack temporarily soldered to the wires. Plug the pickup into an amp with the volume turned down LOW, and tap the slugs with something metallic. You should hear a loud(er) noise when you have the correct slugs. Simple elimination will tell you which wire pair is matched to which set of slugs.

Now get back to me with a simple sketch showing the neck pickup and which sides (nearest the bridge or nearest the neck) the plain and slotted slugs are on, and which wires are matched to which set of slugs. Also a sketch showing the same for the bridge pickup.

I can't promise anything but I should be able to figure out your wiring.

No offense, absolutely no offence, but did you receive your education from the Chinese Communist Party?

"Why don't you [use standard procedure]?" "We can think more clearly about [not what you personally desire]" sound like textbook CCP reasoning.

Again, no offense but the way you formulated that really sounds like the authoriatrian groupthink I've come to notice in Chinese acquiantances.

That regime simply can't teach people how to be happy and free individuals. I appreciate the effort to help but I couldn't help but notice.

Either way, all the best to you!

Ots called the KISS philosophy. KISS stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid.

No more help from me.
