2001 Mex Tele with Broadcaster (STL1-b) and STR-1 neck. Not sure about neck pup...

Recently put in Vintage Broadcaster bridge (STL1-b) and Vintage Neck (STR-1) into my 2001 Mexican Tele.

Absolutely love the Broadcaster bridge pickup.
Love the middle position too.

Not so sure about the neck pickup on its own.
It seems a little bit too warm with not quite enough definition.
The pickups were installed by a very reputable guy - so I doubt if that's the issue.

Does anyone else have this opinion of the STR-1?
If so - what did you do?
Did you change it for a different neck pickup?

As I said - love the Broadcaster bridge pickup and the cemtal switch position when you mix the two pickups is great.
Am I being too fussy??

Thanks for any opinions/answers

I think the STR-1 is a great sounding neck pup. The warmth is its strong point, adds some contrast to the bridge pup. Beautiful when you want some rich warm rhythm tones.

But what anyone else thinks about it, it's what you think that counts. There are brighter pups available, but have you tried using a 500k vol pot with a .022uf cap? That should brighten up the neck tone. Then if the bridge is too bright you can always roll the tone down a bit.

What bridge type does your guitar use? The modern, machined type with six rectangular saddles or the vintage style, stamped steel affair with three rod section saddles?

If you have the modern style bridge, stick with it but consider changing the solid saddles to the bent steel vintage Stratocaster type.
