I posted about this Epi a few days ago in the guitar forum. Well, I gave the stock pups (Epi 57 Classics) a good workout today. Used a few different amps straight in and then with an original Marshall Blues Breaker and a Henretta Emerald Prince pre-amp.
The clean tones are serviceable, but they truly lack the feel, depth and tone I'm used to. Drive tones using the amp sounded pretty good, but failed the test with a couple of my favorite overdrives. So, they are coming out! Since the wiring is also stock and the controls don't respond how I'm used to, I'll also redo the wiring harness.
At the moment, I have three sets to chose from. 1. Kent Armstrong 12 pole's. Set 2: Gibson Burstbucker Pro's. Set 3: Ibanez Super 58's. The Armstrong's are well used and faded gold, the Super 58's are new and gold, the BB Pro's are new and nickel. I was leaning toward the BB's, but the Super 58's will go in first.....and hopefully stay there!
