2004 MIM Standard Fender Strat body wood?

I think it is Alder correct? Just wanted to be sure.

Found a very nice used one upgraded with a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge. I think i`m gonna go for it. What really surprises me with some of the older MIM`s are the necks. I don`t know if its because they`re aging already but the feel, nice honey color, and grain are comparable to some MIA Stats. Heck, the neck on this one is nicer then my 2008 HWY1`s neck!

I dont know in what year they changed poplar to alder in the mim standards...hell I dont even remember if they were ever made with poplar!

Re: 2004 MIM Standard Fender Strat body wood?

AFAIK they changed from poplar to Alder in 2000, at least my 2000 MiM is Alder.

Re: 2004 MIM Standard Fender Strat body wood?

The change from poplar to alder started with the 2000 models, though I imagine some 2000's still got poplar bodies as they tried to clear out their poplar stock.

The reason was that the price of poplar went up, and it no longer costs more to use alder.

my poplar one is actually the favorite, it sounds much more stratty, if that makes any sense. or maybe the pickups are a better match

Yeah it could be a combination of different things but anyway great that you enjoy it. I`ve never had any problems with MIM Fenders, they make some awesome guitars!

my 2 cents is around 2003/2004 you started to see stickers on new MIM strats that claimed they had Alder bodies

I also enjoy poplar. When I was younger I had an older MIM that sounded great. I just picked up a poplar peavey strat copy, loaded it with duncans and new hardware. I couldn't be happier.

Re: 2004 MIM Standard Fender Strat body wood?

I found an 08 MIM Standard Fender Strat that i liked even better then the 04 so i`m gonna go with that one. Plus there is no question about the wood type for an 08,definitely Alder. The only thing with this one is it doesn`t have the Hot Rails in the bridge, but i can always (and will) pick one up to have installed! I really feel that a good MIM Fender is a better buy then a MIA one. Even if you have to change the pickups on the MIM your still saving alot of dough!

to me the 08 is a better guitar..... 04's were nice but the upgrades started on the MIM line in 06... Larger frets, slightly larger trem block...

i wanted an 04 i saw a few years ago that had an ultra rare Flame maple neck... once in a while a figured piece ends up on MIM guitars... my 06 MIM Standard has a super fancy flame neck to it...

Yeah they switched to alder in 2000/2001, but they still had a gazillion stickers in stock so it took a while to use them up.:1:
