2006 Alpine White Les Paul Studio

Anyone have insights about this guitar? Saw this one at Guitar Center today, they're wanting $699. Seems like a good deal. Played really nice and is in near mint condition.

Anything specific about these years I should know? What picksup pickups would be stock in this?

I'm going to try to sell a few guitars locally
to raise money to buy it. Might go back tomorrow to put the 20% deposit down to hold it.

Sorry for the crap picture.

Here's the guitars I'm putting up for sale locally.

490R/498T right?

I have an odd desire to get a white studio and do it up with black hardware and pickups.

Re: 2006 Alpine White Les Paul Studio

Nothing in particular to be concerned with AFAIK. Pickups should be 490R/498T which I don't particularly care for. If it speaks to you and isn't a boat anchor, I'd go for it.

Ebony fingerboard right?

Price is OK to good IMO.

This color/model (as a late-80s studio) was my first "real" guitar,,,except mine also had the gold tuners. (gotta get gold tuners IMO)
I don't do those bridges anymore but if I did it would probably be on a studio.

Re: 2006 Alpine White Les Paul Studio

Good price in that condition, IMO.

First mod I'd do would be Schaller Straplocks. Second and third... an RS Kit with Seths or Pearlys. Finally, a lightweight aluminum tailpiece would shave off a few ounces and help give it a more vintage tone.

It will probably benefit from a setup, and make sure the luthier pays close attention to setting the radius of the strings as they cross the bridge saddles to match the fingerboard radius. Precision filing required, but that'll give you the "plays like buttah" feel.

I had a 2006 Burgundy/nickel Studio. Really liked it, but I had too many Pauls. Sold it for more than what I paid for it and missed it immediately. Great playing guitar.

BTW, I used a couple of applications of the Virtuoso Guitar Cleaner, followed by the Virtuoso Polish on the entire guitar. Using on the neck seemed to reduce the stickiness that sometimes plague Gibsons.

Nice guitar, but Gibsons vary...play before you pay.

Thanks all! Going to try to get over to put a deposit on it in a few. Buuuuut, waiting to hear from a buddy that put my name down in a silent auction at a bar for a Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue. I'm the only bid so far at $300 with an hour left.

And Bill, good advice. I'd probably do Dunlop strap locks, as all my others have them.

Boogie Bill laid it out. Quite often, Gibsons have to be made to play "right" for you. Only difference, and I don't know what you want sound wise, I'd be very satisfied with a WLH set.

Re: 2006 Alpine White Les Paul Studio

Not a bad price. Some people are snobby about newer Gibsons. The claim is that early to mid 90s models are the ones to get. But, I've owned many and a good one is a good one. Some people feel the 498 in the bridge is a little too brash. I guess it depends on what you are using it for. My favorite bridge humbucker for Les Paul is currently Seymour Duncan sh 18 or the whole lotta humbucker. It just sounds so good. Not just for classic bluesy rock. It does heavy so freaking good. Not what I expected for what was touted as a lower to mid output or slightly overwound PAF. Like I said, I own/have owned many Les Pauls, Studios, Standards and a few Customs made over the past 30 years. My current favorites are a 91 Standard, an 01 Studio Gothic, an 08 "chambered" Studio, 08 Traditional and 2013 Oversized bass. So, don't let an after 1997 model scare you off. A good one is a good one no matter what year.

Went by there today, It's gone. :crying:
An unexpected amp purchase put me a day late and a dollar short. Oh well, keeping my eye out for another.

Re: 2006 Alpine White Les Paul Studio

That's a bummer! I've always wanted an alpine white Studio, as well as a white Custom (ala Randy Rhoads). I no doubt will add those to the collection at some point.
