I know a lot of people say this amp sounds like a toy compared to a EVH and other All Tube Amps but in your experiences with the 8100. Can it keep up with the all tube amps? Why and why not aaaaaannd GO

Solidstate amps sound like solidstate amps and tube amps sound like tube amps. What does "keep up" mean? Are you just talking about volume? If so then my experience says a 100w tube amp will completely drown out a 100w solidstate amps unless we're talking old school solidstates like Sunn Beta and Concert amps.

In 2016 there are so many amazing yet affordable tube amps that i wouldn't waste my time or money on thin, sterile, canObees 80s or 90s solidstate amps. $500 or so will still get you a 69 Bassman or a Laney AOR or a Sovtek MIG or an Orange TH30 or a Marshall JCM2000 or a Peavey 6505 or a Jet City or a Hovercraft or a Music Man or any number of other legendary amps.

Tone wise since it is a hybrid amp. 1 preamp tube and solid state power amp. Can this keep up with a tube amp tone wise? Compared to an all tube amp. And how many of you out there that have had or have this amp prefer it over tube amps and why?

What tone? Tone isn't really something you can quantify as 'more or less'. A VS100 is going to have better tone for Death Metal than an AC30. Many people with the VS100 got it for a reason and still love it for that reason. This is something you have to try out yourself and absolutely cannot get an accurate picture of asking people.

I use this amp as my main amp and I try strats, les pauls, bc riches and I get low gain nice tone, and bluesy tones and beautiful high gain tones. I just want to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing cuz I had a Marshall dsl 100 and sold it and stuck with this amp cuz I liked the sound of the 8100 over the dsl. Anyone had similar experiences?

If you like it, use it.

I have had 2 valvestates (and a valvestate poweramp) and still have my AVT20. They are cool amps, I like em. With that said, they don't even come close to my 800's in terms of what I'm looking for in my sound. But hey, I also think my AVT20 sounds better than my 800 at bedroom levels. All depends on what you like.

Re: 2016 Marshall 8100 Still Lives!

I say this all the time but it was my first real amp, and one I sold and later came back to. It screams 80s thrash and early death. Those born after a certain year probably wouldn't get it, much like I wouldn't hear an old fender the same as someone from that era. (I do agree with the statements that it's best at low to moderate volumes)

Re: 2016 Marshall 8100 Still Lives!

I recently picked up a used Valvestate VS65 watt combo for my brother who's starting guitar, since I had the VS100 years ago. He's absolutely happy with the tone, but when we crank it up, it tends to thin out, whereas my tube amps (EVH 5150 III 50 watt, LBX, Marshall SL5 and Orange Tiny Terror) fatten up. The Valvestate sounds great at bedroom levels, better than a tube amp, but at higher volume the tube amps win out.

The Marshall DSL15 I tried out the other day sounds very closed to the VS65, but it fattens up when you crank it.

Re: 2016 Marshall 8100 Still Lives!

Hell yeah guys thats what im talking about. These valvestates rule. I have noticed that it does thin out IF u crank it high enough but my thought on it is just mic it to the singers or your P.A. or front of house speakers or just use a nice pedal with it thats if u need it that high. I know u can probably buy an all tube amp with the total cost considering the amp goes for like $200 to $300 bux but in my case I got the amp for $100 bux. But thats me, still think its a kickass 100 watt amp that definitely has a 80s death/thrash sound that can also do awesome blues and cleans but check out this awesome comparison I found on the dsl and valvestate on youtube. There should really be more of these videos comparing valvestates to all tube amps. It will bring a lot of beginners to intermediate players a lot of joy to know this beautiful amp can be used as a main amp. Just as much as it did for Chuck from Death and many other guitar players in the world including me.

https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=6d-Fk7BdqQw maybe later when I get the chance ill ask my friends if they can bring their tube amps so I can make a comparison video. And after seeing this video today numerous times, the valvestate is more low-end focused aggression oppose to the more mid focused dsl.

I think it was a AVT275 that I had. 2x12 combo. Great little amp. Was blown out of the water volume wise by a BF Fender.

Re: 2016 Marshall 8100 Still Lives!

I'm in,VS100 combo here(early 90's,I think,3 ch).

Pretty damn kewl for what it is, & got it pretty cheap.
Emi Legend spkr & a back baffle worked wonders, but kicks thru my 2x12 M/B cab,as well!

It was my back-up for my rack(which is on the blink),but it's working out fine...
