250 pots with a dimebucker... would work?

hi dudes, i am really wondering if the trick of using 250k pots with the jb (which i did, i put a 250k pot as the "tone" one and a 500k volume pot and get a great result...) will work also with any other high output humbucker that need some kind of smooth on their treble response like the Duncan Distortion or the Dimebucker...

btw i´m going to replace my set of EMGs with duncans and asked some weeks ago about a set that would work best on my guitar replacing emgs and having close eq and output values... but i know these pickups are voiced for the rhythm thing and have that treble bite and crunch (i mean the distortion, dimebucker, etc), my first choice is to repeat the jb 500v/250t pots and a 59 (4 conductor cable) neck set... the other ones keep with the 59 on the neck position (no question about that pup, is just the perfect choice for neck imo) but i´m not sure of which one to get... thats why i need to know if a 250 tone pot will result in a smooth of the highs or a "dark" version of the pup... that would help me picking the dimebucker probably

what do you think? thank you in advance dudes

Only your ears will know for sure. But the easy way to find out is to put the 500k tone pot on about 7 for a few days and listen. 250@7.3 or so = 500k@10.

I'm personally a fan of the 300k Gibson pot with hot stuff like the Distortion or a JB whatever. Is the Dimbucker hot? Some say not so much as you might think, but I read a lot of posts that say "harsh high end" While I don't own one - I'm gonna guess it would be a good thing. But wait for those who have direct experience - I'm sure they are out there...

I've had the Dime in a few different guitars without a tone control at all, and it was definitely too bright. The bassier tone pot thing sounds like a really good idea.

+1 300k pots are great. tames the highs of 500k, but not quite as dark as 250k

i had a dime/59 set on an ibanez sz i had years ago and the tone was awesome, it was an all mahogany with rosewood and strings thru body, very dark woods to combine with this pup, i was very ballanced in the end...

the natural bc rich (btw ex250, do you remember it? i had to take it back to the shop and they send the axe to the bc rich "HQ" to repair, and almost a year after that its mine again!!) has koa wings (i´m sending a pic also) and maple neck thru, ebony board... thats a more ballanced construction, so i´m not sure of changing the emgs with a jb/59 set with 250k tone pot for a all around good sound or a dimebucker, for more of a metal oriented sound as it won´t become shrill or harsh, and even with a 250k pot...

and btw yeah, the pup is really hot...

I love that guitar of yours, enviess!

Have you try the Dime before? I think if you have tha chance to you will soon know wether you like it, its just one of those pups that you either love or hate.
Most of my guitars have SH6's in them, the have a more aggressive sound to them with more crunch and alot smoother than the dime. The SH6 neck it also a wicked pickup, it sounds really good split!
I have them in mahohany/alder and basswood guitars and it sounds wicked in all of them. I like the tighter, slightly bigger bass response of the distortion over the jb.

They all have 500k post except one, which has a 3000k pots. Yes thats not a misprint! LOL.

Re: 250 pots with a dimebucker... would work?

That really bright comment makes me think it's perfect for the neck position of a gonzo Les Paul! And is it Hot like a Demon, a Distortion/JB, an X2N, or or like a Live wire....

Re: 250 pots with a dimebucker... would work?

The Demon isn't that hot, it's more hot vintage. The DB is probably most on par with the Distortion output-wise, if not a little hotter.

3000k dude? and how is the sound from the guitar then?

...i dunno what to do with the choice of the pup ...more suggestions?

thanks again
