250k or 500k volume pot for a strat.

hi,
i have an american deluxe stratocaster with h(tb-5)/s(ssl-1)/s(ssl-1) configuration.I had a 500K as a master volume pot which gave me great sounds in high gain situations with the humbucker but not so good in clean mode with the single pickups (too trebbly). Now i changed the volume pot with a 250 k and i really like the way the singles sound...but i lost the sparkle from the humbucker in a distorted sound.I would like to ask what can i do to compromise that or which hum should i use which won't be affected that much with the change of the volume pot from 500k to 250k.Thanks in advance ANTONIS

p.s sorry but i had to repost it cause the first message was posted in the wrong section!

I thought it was in the right section, and I answered over there. :cool2:

I have a possible solution, so let me ask you two questions:

1. Can you live with one tone control?

2. Is the bridge humbucker 4-wire?

Artie

Edit: Here's a couple ways to do it done quik-n-dirty. Both of these ways allow you to use your Strat in a completely "normal" Strat-mode, when the switch is down. That is, the bridge is split into a single coil, and the 5-way works like any normal Strat, with a 250k pot. Then, at any time, you can flip the "bridge-override" switch, and go instantly to full humbucker bridge mode. (With a 500k pot.)

The first way requires one of those Fender pots that has both the 250k and 500k wafers on one shaft. Or, if you squeeze the switch in between the pots, (probably a tight squeeze), you could have independent vol's for bridge and 5-way mode.

Neither diagram shows the tone controls. I can do a more detailed drawing if you decide to go this route.

P.S. This can all be done neatly with a Fender S-1 switch should you decide to buy one. (With the matching knob/button.)

of course mate...
but the first thing that i 'll try is to install a TB-4 instead of the tb-5 cause i know that the tb-4 has a stronger response in the treble area.Even though the tb-5 was by far my favourite pickup.I had it in my charvel san dimas and sounded awesome...but with the strat didin't sound properly due to the 250 pot.Do you think the tb-4 will work better?
