I had a 500k push/pull pot installed in a Yamaha AES620 (mahogany body, maple cap, set-in neck, JB bridge, 59 neck, two vol and master tone config w/ les paul switching and coil tap).. I like the nice even taper.. but the JB sounds a lot less trebley.. seems to have rolled off the highs... initially I thought this was the SD pickup cover I added on it but I'm starting to think that going from the initial 250k tone pot to a 500k altered the tone.. is this common and will switching to the 250k "brighten" my tone?.. I was told that 500k's are usually preferred for SD pups.. is there an "optimal" pot for a JB?
