When my volume pot is at it's maxed off position my guitar can still be heard as if it were on one. I checked all the wiring removed the volume nob ect. can anyone tell me what's causing this? And how to repair the problem?

Re: 250k pot question

This means that you don't have a solid ground on the volume pot. One end lug of the volume pot should be grounded direct to the output jack sleeve.

Check that first.

Hmmm . . . this is one of those things I'd check with a meter. Are your solder connections clean and shiny. The only thing I can think of that can cause this is if there's some resistance between the ground lug of the volume pot and ground. If its a short, the output jack is shorted to ground with the pot on zero. There can't be any signal getting out.

You guys are awsome. I'm gonna try all of your info to solve it. My soldering could be a bit neater. Thanks for your help and solid information. Should get it soon.

The other possibility is a bad pot

I didn't consider that at first, but if the "ground" lug of the pot is loose, that is, you can "wiggle" it a bit, that may cause that problem.
