250k sound same as 500k half way?

Take a double coiled p.u. hooked up to a 500k tone pot. As is generally recomended. Turn that pot up half way and play.
Now replace that tone pot with a 250k one, turn it all the way up and play.
Will it sound and behave exactly the same way as before, or will there be a difference?
If there will be a difference, what is it and why?

There will be a difference because the taper will be different from 0 to 250 than from 0 to 500. A 500k volume pot rolled back about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way or so from max is approximately equal to a 250k pot at max.

On the other hand, if you dial in a 500k pot to the 250k point, it will sound exactly like a 250k pot turned all the way up. Its the 250k ohms that matters. ;)

Agreed. But FINDING that point is another issue :beerchug:
