250K vs. 500K for tone. Big differance?

In my Wolfgang Special I had an Air Zone in the bridge position and an Air Classic bridge model in the neck position. I was using a 500K pot for volume and a 250K pot for the tone. The guitar always seemed a tad dark for me, especially the Air Classic in the neck. Last night I wanted to experiment so I pulled both pickups out and put the Air Classic in the bridge position using 500K pots for both the volume and tone. WOW! Beautiful clean, clear tone that sounds great even with OD or distortion. I can't help but wonder if using 500K pot's all around really make's that much of a differance. Does using a 500k vs. a 250K on a humbucker for tone make that much of a differance? Thanks a bunch.

Yeah the 500K pots really open out your tone with humbuckers, a vast improvment. I wouldnt use anything less. Just when it comes to mixing with singlecoils would i use the 250K ones.

Yes...with a humbucking pickup using 500K volume and tone pots sound brighter and "better" to me than 500K volume and 250K tone.

I had a full size JB bridge pickup with Fralin single coils in a Strat with the 500K V & 250K T.

I wanted to be able to split the JB with a push/pull tone pot but when I put the guitar together all I had for a push/pull pot was a 250K so I used it until I got some more 500K push/pull pots in. The single coils sounded fine but the JB always sounded to dark until I finally changed the 250K tone pot to 500K.

I agree. I like my JB with the 250 but it lacks the openess of the 500K I think it muddies it a bit too. But I would like to leave one guitar like that.

Thank's guy's. I did'nt know if merely moving the Air Classic from the neck to the bridge is what did it vs. using a 500K instead of a 250K for the tone. I can't believe how good it sound's. Now I have to find a suitable neck pickup.
