250k vs 500k pots in Satin 335

I've got a Gibson 335 Satin (with the stock '57 Classic buckers) that feels really nice and has a nice resonance to it. It's a bit dark, tonally, and would like a little more clarity and punch out of it. I emailed Gibson and was told that this model came with volume pots rated at 250k. Someone a while back, on this forum, mentioned that I should consider upgrading to 500k pots. But when I asked a local guitar tech, he said that would result in some squealing. I'm not sure what to do now. Can anyone offer any insight?

500k pots are standard with humbuckers. its a little unusual to use 250s, but gibson do often use 300k pots so i guess its just a matter aof preference

I play a semi-hollow with 500k pots (all of them) and humbuckers...it only squeals if I'm doing something right.
