Not really. I downtune comfortably with both 27.75" and 25.5" scales. Just make sure to balance the scale length with a comfortable string gauge.

Baritone wont make a huge difference unless you tune below C.

I downtune to B standard, but since I only had the opporunity to test a 27" scale, I wanted to know if a 26.5" scale would have a tonal difference...

26.5 might be a hair 'fatter', but not significantly.
