2X12 with a 150 watt solid state head ???

Despite all the hate towards solid state amp heads, I found one for a good price..and will be picking it up tomorrow !

I found a Line 6 Spider III 150 watt head and I love the way it sounds so far... Now what I want to try to find is a cabinet to make the best of the sound.

I'm looking for a 2x12 cabinet for about 400-500$ or less !!


My true question here... Can I run the 150watt Spider into a 2x12 safely ? (I probably sound like a complete amateur..)

If possible, Which 2x12's can I use with the 150 watt spider head ???

In theory, you would want two 150 watt speakers in that 2x12.
Most SS amp do not sound good when they are "cranked".
I would think you could order a 2x12 from Avatar with a Eminence Wizard/Governor, and be fine.
The Texas Heat is rated at 125 watts (I believe). Two of those in a cab would ensure your safety for just about any amp you would ever plug into.

Eminence Texas heats, Swamps, Tonkers are rated for 150 watts. Or you can try the rwb or man I war at 120 watts.

I use a 150 watt tube amp with a 2/12 cab that's only rated at 120w. It's safe as long as your not running wide open.

if I'm not mistaken
the Line 6 heads have two outs on the back
75 watts each that are meant to plug into the Line 6 cabs
that also have the 4 speakers
divided into pairs with one jack per pair at 75 watts each

Yeah basically, they're sold as a combo (head and cab) or separate. So I'm trying to find a smaller 2x12 cause of weight. And a 4x12 is not necessary in my case.

Is there any 2x12 cabs that come stock that would be okay with the head I'm getting ?? Otherwise ill do the speaker swap

Right now the Traditional 2x12 cab is 400.....shipping included.
Dave builds a good cab, and the speakers will be "better" than the renamed 70-80 that come in that Ibanez cab.

Avatar is a direct order operation, they don't use dealers. They are in Idaho, give Dave a call and ask if they'll ship to you. Great cabs, customizable and very well priced. Avatar cabs are usually my first choice for all those reasons.

If that doesn't work with my dad :p do you think the Ibanez or the Jet City JVC24S+ would work ?

Not sure about the ibanez, I had a Jet City once and they are cheap IMO. Avatar is 9-ply voidless birch. Good quality.

heck look at the Carvin site
in the amp section they have 2X12 cabs for the tweed series, the Legacy series, and the SX series

the Tweed and SX series come with Carvins GT speakers and options for the the Greenbacks

the Legacy series come with the Green backs

all have a variety of tolex options
