2x15 dimensions/porting

i love everyone

so a friend of mine has this old Peavey 2x15 cab with brand new Black Widows in it, and the speakers are great, but the cab is kind of in need of an overhaul, like the entire thing rattles a whole lot when you hit really low bass notes and the bottom is practically rotting away.

so we were thinking it would be a good idea to just keep the speakers and build a new cab. but it seems like the technology behind bass cabs has advanced quite a bit since the time this one was built (early 80s) and we'd rather not just make a copy of the original cab.

does anyone know of any good resources/have any advice that would help this cab get a more modern tone, with better low-frequency response? basically any information about the venting and port holes, etc. would be helpful.
