3 new tracks for my next CD

DrNewcenstein

He Did the Monster Mash
Entirely self-produced, of course

Sailing in The Sun:
Watch a few dozen windsurfing clips while listening to Surfing With The Alien and this crap comes out

The Road Ahead:
For the life of me, I can't figure out a decent solo to go with it. Maybe I'll sell it off as a TV show theme.

Dreams Of Etherium:
I dunno what the name has to do with the music, it's all I could think of at the time

Re: 3 new tracks for my next CD

Sailing in The Sun:

Too much wankery for my tastes. I need a hook or some sort of melody that repeats that I can sink my teeth into. If it's in there I'm not hearing it. I'd play around with some bends, slides, vibrato, and some other tricks just to add some texture and mix it up. Don't care for the tone either. Too electronic sounding.

The Road Ahead:

I kinda dig it. Especially the funky, swirling, phasery stuff. Maybe pump up that stuff a bit more and make it more prominent? A solo would be good but it needn't be too long. Maybe just pepper some funk in there in a few spots? My favorite of the three offerings.

Dreams Of Etherium:

Something about this one reminds me a little of Marty Friedman's Scenes album. It has some potential, I'm just not digging the lead tone. I think you need a tone hear that sounds a little more organic and heartfelt rather than squealing and electronic. Maybe even acoustic?

Overall nice variety of stuff!

I decided to mess around with this because it's a nice little track. I think the reason it's some what hard to solo over is because it might not be clear what key sounds nice over it. I found that the tune mainly does that D major kind of bass and guitar riff. Over that part I found that the Gmajor scale sounds really nice (or D Mixolydian). But then you switch to a G bass thing (with an F in it) - - and again later and Fmajor to G major little bridge thing. Well those chords together fit better in a C major scale - -and a d major chord doesn't fit in C major... so...

try soloing in G major over the main part and when that little bridge comes in (or when it's doing the G part) try playing in C major. There's only one note of difference - F and F#

Re: 3 new tracks for my next CD

Sailing In The Sun is a bit too random for me - there's no hook, it's just an extended solo jam really. Really nice playing, but the tone is really thin.

Road Ahead is cool but really needs a solo or something to break it up.

Dreams is, like Gamera, my favourite. I can hear the Friedman thing in it, but the lead tone reminds me more of old Metallica than Marty. I could see that track developing into an "orion" type instrumental.

Cool stuff, it's interesting to hear what you actually play using all those cool Jacksons!

Re: 3 new tracks for my next CD

Great playing! What Id love to hear is Sailing done with a more open sound. To me it sounds compressed and almost transister radio.. Put some air under the mix.
Sorry, I cant give any advice on how to do it... :banghead:

I really Liked 3! Tasty!!!!

Clean guitar in "Dreams" is great! Like Gamera said, it has some potential. I find the other two kind of unfinished, if that makes sense.

Don't use that harmonizer - it sounds too much like a harmonizer.
