3 pot configuration: Master vol-bridge vol-neck vol

Hi guys,

I have a guitar with 3 pots and because I don't like tone controls I was thinking about a configuration with only volume controls. Of course there is always the option to leave the two knobs as dummy knobs but I thought why not make it with 3 vol pots instead. One for bridge, one for neck and a master one. I think it's gonna be a cool tone shaping setup when using both pickups. Especially for cleans (I use cleans a lot for Epic Metal intros, interludes etc).

Now, that way, each pickup is gonna be in parallel with two pots all the time. It's very own and the master pot. What pot value do you guys think is best for such a set up? Is 500K alright or better do it with 1Meg pots?

Many thanks!

500K's. 1-meg let thru more of the high end, which you usually don't need.

Hey thanks blueman! It's a Schecter Hellraiser C-1 FR which I plan on putting the Suhr Aldrich set in by the way.

Just don't overestimate what you get from this "mixer". You are still subject to the usual limitations of what passive guitars will suffer when connected with individual pots.

Yeah it's just to have something usable with this 3-pot setup. Other considerations are to use something like those EMG RPC, EXG etc controls... The guitar has a battery compartment already so that would be also an good option.

If you have a spare pot you could put in a LCR network like Blackmore uses. E.g. Bill Lawrence Q-filter.

Yep, that's cool too. I forgot about it... Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

When both pups are on at the same time, they'll effectively "see" a single 167k pot. That's a pretty big treble hit. I'd go with 1M's. Even then, they'll see 333k.

(Actually, I'd go master volume, and find something else for the two holes.) ;)

Thanks Artie, that's what I'm gonna do. It's better to keep it simple.
