3 Tones From My Mesa, What Do You Think?

well, i think i'm finally starting to dial-in some better tones. the feel of using a lower gain setting is something that takes getting used to because the touch sensetivity of high-gain isn't there, but i'm starting to like it. the clip goes as follows:

texas tone (i think), same channel but w/ds-1, mesa 5:50 burn channel

i hope i'm finally starting to dial-in some good tones, but i could use some feedback? what do you think, better than before or almost there?

Re: 3 Tones From My Mesa, What Do You Think?

I liked the tone in the first part of the clip, the first Texas Tone was really good. At 24/25 seconds though, you switched something on that kinda made the tone really compressed. I'm not a fan of lots of compression as a whole, so it's probably just me. Definetly an SRV vibe in the tone.

The second part with the DS-1 sounded pretty good, you were using a Strat right? What kind of pickups do you use, because I can't hear any buzzing at all, but it still has the definition of a Strat. Very thick, almost got a pseudo-humbucker tone at points.

The tone on the last part of the clip seemed very thin, though not piercing. I liked it, though not as much as I liked the second part. Still a good tone however, and I think the whole thing sounded pretty good all around, except for that one compressed part at the beginning.

thanks for the feed back. i forgot to mention that i was switching between bridge neck and middle pickups. when i did that srv kind of stuff it was primarily with the neck pickup. i don't know if that's what you were hearing, but i didn't use any other effects or anything.

i think i'm getting close with the ds-1, but i'm not sure what else i need to improve my tone. i already cut down the gain and tweaked my, so i'm wondering if i need to get one of the ds-1 mods. anyone know about those?

I liked all the bluesy riffs you did. But I didn't think the tone was heavy enough for Master of Puppets riffage.

It seems like you have the trouble I do... I grew up playing metal type stuff, so when I try and expand my horizons it is hard to grasp it... because with high gain you can always turn you knob down and clean up and fake it... but with low gain blues sounds you get kinda stuck if you want to rip peoples heads off! Great playing! I won't comment on the tones too much, as I have no idea what makes a good low gain sound LOL!
