$700 is a fair price for an $1800 guitar with a headstock break, provided the truss rod works and the headstock veneer isn't cracked.
I think of it as a good buy for someone who can do the work themself, and an OK buy for someone who has to pay a couple hundred for a pro repair. Overall, there's so many good guitars out there in perfect condition for $1000 used that I'd be inclined to pass on it. But I'm sure someone will be able to restore that guitar and end up with a nice LP goldtop for $700 and the price of repair materials. If that person is you, go for it. Everyone needs a goldtop IMO.
Even though it's a 30th Ann, I still value it at $1800 in pro repaired condition, because repaired guitars can never fetch collector dollars.

That's a weird looking break. It's hard to tell from the pics, but it almost looks like there is old glue residue in the break. If so, that may be a bad glue job that came back apart. I've seen this before. If that is the case, then a new, proper repair will be more costly.
I'd steer clear.

It does look like there is glue towards the bottom of the break. If a neck breaks twice, the second time because of a bad repair job, you're going to be in trouble. The veneer on top doesn't look too good either. I can see it has started to separate from the headstock piece. I also see dried up glue on the edge of the veneer - while I'm absolutely sure Gibson would wipe off the squeeze-out of excess glue when gluing on headstock tops Just another sign of a previously done, poor repair. The fact the seller also hid the fact of the break until after the first buyer turned down says the seller is not reputable, and I wouldn't pay $700 with the way things are.

Depending on the rest of the guitar, it might be worth fixing. Some people make a big deal out of Gibsons with a break, but if I can get the guitar cheap enough, it might be okay...depending on the break of course.
I'd love to see more pics.
Hey, keep his number, give him yours, make him a reasonably low offer and let it simmer. You could wind up with a great guitar.

I had one when they first came out. I really liked it. A good guitar. Just as good as an R7.
IF you check e-bay they are asking $3500 to $5600 used. They are all original. There is one thats been around a long time that was said to be Roy Buchanan's. They are asking $27,500. :eyecrazy:
That one may be worth trying to fix it. A good tech may be able to get it done. I had a 69 SG standard that fell over backwards and the break looked liked that one,maybe even longer. A good fix will hold up. It looks like there could have been a crack or a chunk of wood missing before the break below the binding at the first fret. It looks like its filled in with something.
The bridge pickup may not be original. Unless someone took the cover off of the original for some reason. Pickguard is missing. The case is not original.
I would not pay $700. Plus there is not any good pics showing the rest of the guitar. You cant really see what condition the body is in.
I would not offer more than $300. That case is worthless. To pay to fix it and buy a decent case is not worth it to me. Offer $300 see what he says.
