4 Mod Combination

Mojo's Minions
I came up with a combination of 4 mods that I wanted to be versatile, easy to install, and inexpensive:

- Bridge Volume - Kinman Treble Bleed - .001 cap with a 130K or 150K resistor wired in series

- Bridge Tone - Push-pull for coil split

(Duncan codes = black hot, green and bare ground, red & white paired to coil spilt)

- Neck Tone - Wired for spin-a-split to give the sharper high-end and thinner mids of unbalanced coils (cleans up any mud)

- Neck Volume - Wired for Coil Swap Mod in the middle position (bridge slug coil on with neck screw coil) for a 'virtual' HB

(Duncan codes = red hot, white & bare ground, black & green paired to spin-a-split)

This significantly expands on the standard 3 stock choices, and gives many increments of unbalanced coil tones on the neck PU by itself, and also with the neck & bridge PU's on together. Plus there's a virtual HB and it keeps high-end when rolling down the volume. Cost in parts = $10.

Re: 4 Mod Combination

I find I get plenty of versatility as well as simplicity by using a push-push coil split on both volume pots (with treble bleeds) and a modded TBX as both tones. I also have the middle position out of phase. I can get just about any tone I want from it. The only thing I don't like is I can't have variable splitting.

Re: 4 Mod Combination

Provided you have enough pots, you can have variable coil splitting (spin-a-split) just by converting the neck tone to a 2nd volume (I tend to think in terms of 4 pot guitars). You get full HB all the way down to coil split, but the best neck tones are the blends of the two. I'm mainly using a push-pull for coil split on the bridge PU, so that I can pair it with the screw coil on the neck and get a 'virtual ' HB, which is less harsh and noisy than coil split. Twin push-pulls for coil split are seen more often on Epi's and Gibsons lately, which is nice, but there's more versatile wirings. That's why I combined simple 4 mods. It costs less than twin push-pulls and does a lot more.
