4 way switch

Going to put in hot rails for Tele. Question would you guys keep the 3 way switch or put in the 4 way switch what are your thoughts

Re: 4 way switch

What do you want the 4 way switch to do? Is that the one that adds both pickups in series? I can't imagine that would be good with a Hot Rails.

Re: 4 way switch

Uh huh, I tried doing series with 2 hot humbuckers just for kicks. It wasn't that fun though, it was just slop.

Re: 4 way switch

i like the series option with bright lower output pups, with thick high output pups id expect it to be pretty dark and sludgy

Re: 4 way switch

Yeah, I would advise against series with anything but vintage-output pickups. Like running through the mud with boots on.

Re: 4 way switch

It would be useful for out of phase though, if you were in to that sound.

Agreed except with out of phase. Many humbuckers really distort well with series + out of phase.

Re: 4 way switch

Actually, I haven't spent much time with out of phase like that...is that possible on a 4 way switch?

If it's a superswitch. It might be possible on a standard 4-way, but I'd have to look at one.

Re: 4 way switch

One of the pickups could go to an OOP switch first. That way you could choose. Or wire it for OOP permanently.....with 2 hot humbuckers parallel OOP could be ok too.

This is true. You can go to a separate switch first, like a push/pull pot, and then to the switch. I don't believe this is possible with just a 4 way switch, though.
