412 cabinet

Re: 412 cabinet

They're made out of MDF/particle board and have not so great speakers. And if you shop around, you can find a used 1960 or similar cab made from marine grade Baltic birch ply for not much more.

Re: 412 cabinet

A friend of mine had one. They are rather meh, in my opinion, or even worse: they are entry-level 4x12s, which is really only a thing because of the traditional looks. If I were you, I'd go smaller but better – get a good 2x12 or 1x12 for the same price – or go used. The only reason I could see for actually buying this is if you wanted to get a cheap backline of Marshall stacks.

This should be cheaper, if anything, even when imported from Germany. I haven't tried them, but these have top-of-the-line speakers in them, so I can guarantee that you are getting a better product for most applications:

Re: 412 cabinet

don't bother with that cab

They sound OK at very low volumes, but as you go louder it will begin to reveal itself.

Re: 412 cabinet

If it must be a 4x12 and you are looking for a budget cab look at the Fender FM412. It is plywood construction and the speakers are "OK". You can find one used for $100 - $125. They are very underrated cabs and ignored because they do not have the "Marshall" name on them. Also at that price you can alway pick up a used set of twelves to really tweek it out.

Re: 412 cabinet

Thanks to all for the advice. I wondered about the price difference and I now know enough to steer clear.
This a great place to get RELIABLE advice. Thanks again. ponto

Re: 412 cabinet

IME, one of the best values in a budget 412 is one of the Peavey 412 MS or their original 5150 cabs.

My fav cab is the Mesa Half-Back 412 with EVMs in the closed bottom and C-90s in the open top. Slightly smaller than a Marshall cab, and built like a tank.

Re: 412 cabinet

Used older Carvin cabs come up on craigslist now and then for relatively cheap. Some (like legacy and v3) with t75s and v30s.
