I've got a set of 490R and 490T, pups that I'm looking to load into an Epi SG/400 or LP . . . or other make/model. I want a guitar I can leave at our rehearsal space. Budget for the used guitar is $300.
We play classic rock covers and classic rock type of originals.

Any thoughts, direction, advice is greatly appreciated.

This will be run through an Egnater Tweaker w/2x12 Celestions.

THANKS!

No reason that should not work. Personally, I would put those in a Les Paul, not an SG. Those pickups are Alnico 2 magnets, which have a lot of mids, and an SG has a mid-focused sound already. Les Pauls have more focus on lows and highs, so the mid focused pickups should balance out better.

Those pickups are great in an SG IMO. I think a G-400 with those would be a very nice guitar, but not a heartbreaker if it is stolen or broken.

I like SG's better than Les Pauls myself. I like A5 magnets in SG pickups better, although a set of Seth Lovers does sound great in one.

I feel the opposite way. I like A2 in SGs, and brighter magnets in Pauls. To my ear Pauls are all midrange and low end. They need help with the highs IMO. OTOH, SGs can be overly brash on the high end, and A2 helps warm them up.

I recently got an SG that came with 490R / 490T A2's and it sounds great to me. Very classic rock tones. I'd go for it.
