5-band EQ still work with overdrive pedal on?

Hey I acquired a Boogie 50 caliber Plus and while I love the amp I don't want to turn up the gain too much so the clean channel distorts too much so I decided to get an overdrive pedal for it (which one is not important right now). Either way the question is, that there is a 5-band EQ on it that can be activated by footswitch which I would use as a lead boost. If I was running the overdrive pedal and decided to use the EQ pedal would still work and cut through or would no noticable difference be known?

Yes, it will still work and be noticeable. I know you said the specific OD pedal wasn't all that important at the moment, but FWIW, you're probably gonna want something that doesn't color the tone too much, so it doesn't f*ck up your Boogie's tone.

The tube screamer is the only one of those I've tried, and the only thing I think it's good for is a clean boost.

Have you made the obligatory trip to Guitar Center and tried those out yet?

That El Dorado pedal looks cool.

tried out the TS-9 through a Mesa Boogie Rectum Fryer, I like what I heard but I feel though the TS-9 is more of a volume boost than so much a pedal to add extra "oomph" that the 50 caliber sometimes lack compared to say if my friend is playing his Mark IV.

I'm gonna highly recommend that you add a Boss DS-1 to your arsenal. For $39, they're the best deal ever. Easy to get a great sound from, too.

I've thought about that, but then again I wonder if I need the clean channel so much because the music I am playing has hardly what some people would call it a "clean" channel. The music I play is very much in the vein of Sabbath, Mastodon, Clutch, Nebula, Fu Manchu, and CoC. Yet I am putting all options on the table at this point.

I've only tried two of the three pedals you listed: Ibanez TS-9 and MXR Wylde OD. The TS-9 tends to colour the sound a bit IMO, whereas the Wylde OD is more transparent. Maybe I've got it backwards but that's how I remember it.

The TS-9 is definately not a Metal Zone but it isn't meant to be. The TS-9 does add some distortion if you run it high enough but mostly it is meant to heat up your signal so that you hit the front end of the amp harder.

I run a TS-9 into a V32 with stellar resulsts and the resulting sound goes from Mesa MkI to cranked Marshall easily, which is a lot to ask from a little 30 watt open back combo.

Put a TS-9 in front of a Mesa amp which usually has more than enough gain on tap already and you'll do permanent damage to your man grapes. I know, I tried it.

In front of a Twin, a TS-9 won't get you into Metallica territory but in front of most Mesa amps they sound wicked. You have to remember that many of the tones that we know and love came from front ended amps and it's hard to get the same tone from high gain amps without a pedal.

The 50 Cal wasn't one of Mesas smokers but a solid OD pedal will fix that.

Yeah, I probably sounded like a complete ignoramous. When I had a TS-9, all I knew was it was supposedly the secret to killer tone, and you can probably imagine a 19 y/o metalhead's disappointment
