5 Way Selector Question

Alright, i have a schecter c-1 classic, one of the older ones with two volumes, one tone and a 5 way selector (dual hums). I'm pretty sure the selector goes 1- full bridge (series), 2- bridge side of both hums (parallel), 3- neck side of both hums (series), 4- same as 3 but parallel and finally 5- full neck (series). So- when i have it in 2, only the neck volume control does anything. In 3, only the bridge volume does anything. Lastly, in 4, only the bridge vol does anything. Should it be like this? I just figured that if both are being run together the volume controls would both work. I'm not very familiar with this kinda stuff, i just remember taking it in to get it set up and the tech mentioning something to me about it. Any help? Oh and another thing- the tone only starts to cut out when i get to the last maybe 1/6 of the turn of the tone pot. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 5 Way Selector Question

Well, I was going to try and look at Schecters schematics, but they call it a 5-way switch, and then show a schematic of a 3-way with two push/pull pots. :yell:

Basically, anytime you configure two coils to work together as one, you'ld only want one volume control in the loop. So I imagine that what you are describing is normal.

Not sure why you aren't getting more affect out of the tone control, unless Schecter just designed it to be very subtle. If the current tone pot is an "audio taper", you could gain back a bit of control by changing it to a "linear taper". Other than that, I'm not sure. You could change its value, also, and offset its range with an added resistor. (My mod.) ;)

I can show you how to do this if you're interested, but I'd try the linear taper first.
