50 Watt 5150 III...any thoughts?

Searched for reviews here and can't really find anything.

Looks like XSSIVE may have bought one.

Quality? Made in Vietnam or something like that right?

Channel 2 is all i care about, are they equal, 100 compared to 50 tone wise?

How does it compare to the 100 watt other than the extra thump?

Is it worth the $999.99?

Edit:
Also, why I ask is I would finally like to buy very good quality amp. I won't say price is no object but I'll say anything around $1500 or lower, but I also like best bang for my buck thus the EVH 50 watt 5150.

Thinking about an EVH, Splawn, Mesa Stiletto so far.

Volume isn't really a concern, no kids, empty basement, neighbors ain't that close.

Currently have the Cheaper Peavey 6505 1x12" combo and basically spend 99% of my time playing the crunch channel, volume around 4-5, drive at 6 1/2. I could basically get by with a single channel Quick Rod for example.

Yeah, I bought one....and I'm madly in love with it!!!! I can't compare it to a 100w version though since I never played one. It seems just as well built as any other mass produced amp I've owned from Peavey, Engl, Mesa, etc. Nothing about it screams cheap. Yeah it's made in Vietnam.

On my way out the door, can give you more info when I get back.

I have one and the 2x12 cabinet and it is way better than the Peavey 5150 combo. Sold my combo.

Talk MF to selling it at discount and then wait and wait and wait for delivery. Then rock out!!!

Which 5150 combo? The actual big boy combo or the cheaper 6505+ 1x12?

Re: 50 Watt 5150 III...any thoughts?

I had the real Peavey 5150 combo with the 2x12 sheffields and Eddie's signature on the top.

The new 5150 mini is a lot quieter, too. Not as much noise and hiss as I seemed to have with the Peavey combo. I had to buy an MXR Smart Gate to tame the noise, but I don't need it anymore with the new 5150 mini.

Listen to the tone of She's the Woman off the new album and I can get my amp and cabinet to sound a lot like that. Now, if only I could play that well.

Not a bad demo although it seems like there's sooooo much gain available it's not even funny. I really liked the tone when he increased the mids on the blue channel. Sounds like it would be a very nice compliment to my TH30... I'd have a very sweet and versatile rig...

That sounded like sh1t!!

Re: 50 Watt 5150 III...any thoughts?

I don't have my gain above 11 o'clock on any of the two gain options (1 & 2 share a gain). 3 has way huge gain no need to crank it. However, that is just me. Strangely enough I bought an EVH to get close to a VH tone. Go figure.

Re: 50 Watt 5150 III...any thoughts?

Well, a demo with "bedroom" volume, isn't really going to DEMO what an amp like this can really do. Cranking the gain but putting the volume on 2 will sound crappy, no matter what amp you use.

Re: 50 Watt 5150 III...any thoughts?

You need to listen to a number of Demos- has really nice cleans and ariculate Crunchy Gain then more Gain- versatile and excellent based on Videos- have not heard it Live.

Two other very good Amps around 900$ or a Grand -although early for many Demos are the Carvin Legacy 3 and the Mesa Mini Recto- but it's only 25 watts.

Bet the 50 watt EVH is going to be very popular.......

I LOVE mine, it's a really good amp.

It could have a bit better balance between the volumes on channel 1 and two, but it doesn't bug me that much.
I live in channel 2 mostly, and use the insanely gainy ch 3 for some solos.

I've recorded a few few clips using it.

Clean with a strat, tc Flashback in the loop. crappy played, but the tone isn't half bad:

And of course a couple Van Halen clips.... ;)

Simulated Eventide done in audacity with duplicating the track and adding a +9 cents pitch shift. Dry left, wet right.

Re: 50 Watt 5150 III...any thoughts?

Blix, those sounded great!! What speakers/cabinet were you using?

Re: 50 Watt 5150 III...any thoughts?

Thank you. The cab is the EVH 2x12" with the 70th Anni G12H's, sounds killer. :)

Re: 50 Watt 5150 III...any thoughts?

Damn you, Blix. Now you've got me wanting to buy that head and cabinet.
