Re: 50 Watt Club

do you want me to tell people why you think 50 watts is jut right for you?

Re: 50 Watt Club

50 watts is perfect for me because on my single channel amp, it gives me enough clean headroom, but at the same time breaks up at an "acceptable" volume.

Truth be told, it's more in the speakers you're using, but I love my '68 bassman.

Re: 50 Watt Club

Cool amp...one of the only high channel switchers I give to craps about it a Pittbull UL.

Love that amp!

well, it's the small one, not the KT-88 Ultra Lead. Mine is the 50 watt EL34 version. Oddly enough, this one and the UL are the only VHTs I really dig. I've brought almost all of them home to try but these 2 have a comfort factor or something. I brought home a 50CL a few years ago that I don't remember liking nearly as much as this one. I think it might even be the same exact one.

+1 on 50 watts. I think it will give me the <volume & breakup> I'm trying to nail.

+1 on the importance of speakers. For example, with my 50 watt amp I'm going into a 50 watt cab. The amp I chose last night to buy out of every 50 watt amp for 5 counties is the amp I thought would work best with this 212. Yes, I picked my 50 watt Pittbull out of a dozen or so contenders, and bought it last night because I wanted to work with VHT/Fryette tone in conjunction with warm Greenback doom. I wasn't sure at first, but it literally sounds like a better idea all the time.

Re: 50 Watt Club

^^^ sorry not "bought", welfare cops

traded my Z pile for, I meant to say

Re: 50 Watt Club

50w is a good amount of headroom.

30w is good too... but it's like driving a car that can only do 55 in a 55 zone.... great until all the traffic around you decides it wants to do 60.

Re: 50 Watt Club

I had a 45 Pitt combo that could do anything my old band's co guitar player's triple rec could do and than some....

Plus when you hit that sweet spot on an amps gain with that low wattage it just sounds so much meaner than it does on the larger amps;

Re: 50 Watt Club

small club

I'd like to express my thanks to a couple of people who've recommended greenbacks to me in the past

that and playing a 5153 cab a few times helped cause some chain reactions of thought and dependent multi-gear choices that led to a miracle of "could've had a V8." Some things really are full circle, like the time before the popularity of Vintage 30s.

but my two G12Ms are the heart of the solution

Re: 50 Watt Club

40 seems to be loud enough for me. Some blackstar ht-40 owners might agree as well. I really want to own a carvin v3m though, which would put me in the club.

Re: 50 Watt Club

My Mesa Nomad 100 has a half-power switch that I used almost constantly when playing with my old band. Does that count?

Re: 50 Watt Club

I will be there noext year I hope, or when I sell my old race car to build my JCM 800 2204.

you right 50 watts is just the right about of headroom and volume
