53' Tapped Tele Esquire Wiring

Hi there,

I've looked over the wiring diagrams on this site and on the web in general to see if there is a wiring diagram that gives more options on getting the most out of the 53" Tapped Tele. For instance, I'm interested in doing an Eldred style wiring but one that allows you to switch between the 6.3k and 9.3k outputs of the pickup so that each output can use the three tone options of an Eldred mod for a total of six different tone options. I've asked two "professional" wiring harness makers if that's something that could be done with a push-pull pot, and it seems that they're stumped. Or is there another wiring option that has more interesting tone options?

im not sure what the eldred wiring is, but you could use a push/pull to switch between the tapped and full output

Stumped? No offense to your "pro's", but this is pretty dirt simple. I found several variations of the Eldred mod, so you have to pick the one you want, but the pup switching is simple. And, you could use the other side of the switch to select between two different cap/resistor values for either pup mode.

Those first two are not the Eldred mod. The first one is a stock esquire wiring, the second one is a tweak on an Esquire wiring. The third one is right though. The key difference between the Eldred mod and a stock esquire is that the Eldred mod gets rid of the bass cut and replaces the fixed tone cap with a much smaller value. The effect is it sounds like a cocked wah. I prefer the "arlo" mod which is similar to the eldred but instead of removing the bass cut it tweakes it to more usuable values. Adding a subtle bass rolloff that makes the position a touch more distinct from the other two.

Attached is the arlo cocked wah mod with a tap switch. If you want to do the eldred mod, simply omit the 0.01uF cap and the 3.3k resistortemp.png - Click image for larger version Name:	temp.png Views:	0 Size:	131.8 KB ID:	6289971

Thanks for the diagram. I know a bit about wiring and found it odd that a dual output pickup could stump people who make wiring harnesses as a business. I appreciate it.
