53 Vintage Tele

ehdwuld

A Ficus
when I got home today
found a friend had pulled up
he said he had something to show me

he said his friend was helping an old preacher move some years ago
and he gave him and old tele for helping
he told him
"if I don't come ask for it, play it at my funeral and its yours"
well he did and now he wants to move it

I dont have his asking price
but I did play it and it was awesome
fat chunky neck
neck was rough from years of wear

I'll post pictures from my phone in a bit

Re: 53 Vintage Tele

looks like one of the old pine bodies
he says there is a name like Carlos in the control cavity

Re: 53 Vintage Tele

...Wow. So it's yours?

So much more care in those days; just looking at the neck heel and headstock shaping.

I just couldn't justify the asking price

I wanted it
just cause it was so cool

you can see it has been played alot

Re: 53 Vintage Tele

Ive seen real old Teles, That is not the real deal,. It's had a lot of stuff slathered over the finish. The body also. but pretty cool anyhow. The action looks like telephone pole high. I'd be concerned.Anytime they are out of their original case is a red flag.

Nothing is cooler than a blonde Tele with a black pickguard. Thumbs-up to this one.

Re: 53 Vintage Tele

Wow, that is one fine looking guitar! An actual '53 vintage! I bet it feels and plays great. I own myself a 2006 1952 AVRI Tele that is starting to get some wear marks, but not like yours. Nice score.

Re: 53 Vintage Tele

If it is what it's supposed to be, and the price is able to be met, I'd grab it. You could probably make some real money by flipping it. I wouldn't buy it to use it.....there's newer guitars for that.

Yeah he wanted the price of a new car

Re: 53 Vintage Tele

If it's straight then it's worth a fair amount. I've played a few old ones like that and they typically play like crap but sound fantastic

Re: 53 Vintage Tele

If you want to invest, invest. If you want to play guitar, buy a guitar. The market for musical instruments is more fickle and fragile than a lot of us want to believe.

Re: 53 Vintage Tele

The action on it was fine the
frets didn't seem to bad
The back of the neck in the cowboy chord area was rough
The finish was gone and felt like it had dried out around the grain

It's ash.

My real '54 has slotted screws at the neck plate...not Phillips heads.

I think '54 or '55 is when slotted screws were finally replaced by Phillips heads.

But I've seen Nancy, Roy Buchanan's '53, close up and it has Phillips head neck screws too.

What a find!

I was terribly impressed

What a wonderful world where others share your obsession
And will drive fifty miles to let you in on their madness

Re: 53 Vintage Tele

Value is probably $20K+. If I could, I'd be yanking out my wallet faster than Superman. Once in a lifetime find. Probably a better investment than stocks, bonds, or real estate.
