i'm relatively new to tube amps and i was wondering what 5881 tubes are, who uses them, and what do they sound like, what kind of sound in other words. what companies use them in their amps? the carvin v3 has a bias option for 5881 and i'm just wondering. they're in the power-amp section

edit: who makes them as well? groove tubes?

Re: 5881 tubes

They're kind of like 6l6s. Although there are current production 5881s, I think that NOS are generally better.

New Old Stock, which is stuff made years ago but never sold. It just say in a warehouse. Well, they call that stuff NOS.

5881's are the electrical equivalant of 6L6's with 5881 being the European designation (so I've been told about the designation).

Search for the Tubestore for info. There's another place too but the name escapes me right now.
