Does anyone here have experience putting a 59/custom hybrid in the neck position? What kind of guitar and how did it sound to you?
Even if you only have used it in the bridge what is your speculation on the results of it in the neck?

I have a two guitars with a 59 in the neck and I really like the 59 in the neck. I have a custom 5 in the bridge in one guitar and it's really nice there. It would be used with moderate to higher gain.

For me, it would be too hot in the neck I'd lose all the dynamics if I used one as a neck pickup.

What's about the hottest you'd go?
It is a little less hot than the Black Winter, which I do have in a guitar. I'm just trying to not have too many repeat pickups.

In the neck? At the most, 8k.

It's worth a try if you play mostly with gain. The first question I would ask if clean tone is important is do you care if the tone gets all fat. If you don't care about that, it can work and be a different sound. Generally 8-9k is pretty hot for a neck pickup and above that it gets all fat and bassy. To me, it's silly how the black winter and distortion necks are wound to 13k, but I guess they work because they use ceramic magnets. It's worth a try if you have the pickup and you play with gain mostly. The Demon is another different pickup you could try because it has the double screw hex/filister set up.

+1 for the Demon. It's 10k and you would think it would be too hot for the neck, but don't let the resistance fool you, it really works great and rolling off the vol on the guitar cleans up any OD that you might experience.
