59/Custom Hybrid - Who currently uses it?

As the title says, who currently uses it? I have one on order direct from SD. Got tracking info this evening. I’m gonna slap it in my Warmoth with the Classic Stack Plus in the neck and middle. The Perpetual Burn is going to go in my Kramer Baretta.

But I’m curious what those that use the 59/Custom hybrid think of it since they last shared the experience. Fill me in.

I have a pair of double cream ones made by Odie.

Currently have one in a Les Paul copy. Great pickup. It's a beefy rock PAF. Not Custom Stupid hot, but not PAF chill. Great competitor for a lot of DiMarzio 10k's that I are named Jo, or I I'm just not into.

Much better Bridge humbucker for an all arounder guitar than a Custom. The clean up with volume is awesome and maintains a hint of natural organic via the 59 wind.

I use one in my Warmoth Strat (with a Classic Stack and Five Two), and a CS one with double screws and roughcast magnet in my Steinberger. It sounds great with any gain range, is wonderful split, and still has a lot of dynamics. A winner for me.

^^ A5.

I've also had one for a long time - assembled from a TB59 and C5. In my superstrat with a pair of SSL2s it does pretty much anything, clean to filthy, whatever. To me, it has a slightly P90ish vibe as well because of the increased mid compared to a typical PAF style pu.

I haven't tried it in parallel, which might be interesting, I just have a switch for cutting the 59 coil out. Enough output from the Custom coil to carry the show, as it were.

Sounds like it's right my my alley, and a perfect fit in this guitar. Looks like I'll have it before the new neck comes so that's convenient. It'll be installed, wired up and ready to go.

It sounds way better with an A2 if you ask me. I was actually just about to move one to a Les Paul yesterday before I learned that apparently it doesn't fit. Too long, and not wide enough.

What do you mean too long and not wide enough? A standard spaced long-leg pickup should fit fine in a Les Paul.

What's the tonal difference with an A2 compared to A5?

I've never tried the A5, but I have one with an A2 in a strat that i absolutely love.

It's F spaced, I should have clarified. I totally forgot because it has been sitting a while.

The difference between an A2 and A5 in a 59/C is the same as the difference between a Custom 5 and a Custom Custom. I can't really compare it to a Custom Custom, because I've never used a CC and a A2 59/C in a similar instrument. More mids, rolled off treble (not dark though), woolier bass. The perfect bridge pickup for a Pearly Gates, as far as texture goes.

Got it. Yeah. Some an F spaced will fit but most it won't.

Nice. I love the CC. It's probably my favorite Duncan bridge pickup. I've used it in Strats, Les Pauls, Superstrats. Based on the EQ chart, the Hybrid has more mids than a '59 or C5 separately, which I'm definitely good with.

Latest travel notes show it to be delivered on Saturday. At best I'll get it installed on Sunday, maybe. But then I have to wait for the neck to arrive and that needs to have a finish put on, nut installed, frets leveled and polished, etc.. Will be a bit before I get to playing anything with it.

It was a while ago, but I also tried out an A4 in it and it worked pretty well. Didn't really match the neck well, so I changed it.

Honestly, I may put it back in the bridge of my Strat. Currently my #1 strat has a pretty traditional build, but I might replace the 5-way for a 3-way and the bridge single coil for the 59/C2

The pickup arrived on Saturday. Got it installed yesterday. Still waiting on the new neck for the guitar. That should ship this week based on their lead time for Showcase necks. Will still be a few weeks before I get to hear it but that's OK.

I used it for quite a while in my LP standard. It is great for AC/DC to Hair Metal levels of gain. It's not ideal for actual metal, but it can do it. It also is the best splitting HB I've tried, since it splits to the custom coil at about 7k. It doesn't sound like a strat, but it's very useable.

Let us know what you think after you get everything installed.
Im also doing a strat build (warmoth body/neck) and have this pickup in mind.along with Custom Custom.
Thanks

I’ve got one! Not in any guitar at the moment but I’m tempted to get another so I can use it. Great pickup! I think I have something recorded with it. I’ll see if I can dig that up.

I will definitely post my thoughts. The neck should be arriving today but then I have to finish it, check the frets, etc. May check the frets before wiping on the finish because I had to order a small bottle of Tru-Oil, everybody out locally, and it won't be here until Saturday.

I knew I had a rough idea I tracked with the 59/Custom in my John 5 tele. Not the best sounding demo, but it is a great all around pickup!
My apologies if my mixing\mastering sucks on this one as it is just an idea I had for a song.
