has anybody tried this combo in a strat with 1vol-1tone 500K pots?
i bet it sounds great distorted, but what about clean tones?

I have something similar in a tele. I have a strat with a JB and 2 Great White Snarks. The single is pretty hot and warm, but totally cool when clean. The 59 is a nice clean pickup and pretty fine under light distortion. Some people love it or hate it or like it only as a neck pickup. I really like using the 59 as a slide pickup, it's vintage sounding and gritty in light distortion. Go for it.
