Okay, I have a neighbor guitar player who is a lot younger than me, and doesn't have many friends, so I sorta took him under my wing and started teaching him stuff and jamming with him and talking to him a lot and stuff about gear and whatnot. Anyway, his parents are loaded and hes an only child so he eventually got en Epi LP Standard and later a Gibson SG Special Faded after playing a short amount of time. I can't say I disagree with the parents because this kid has mad balls. He love to perform, hes not afraid of playing in front of others (hell, hes a NUT onstage) he loves to play, he has an incredible drive to learn and play and will always stick with it etc etc and I really get a kick out of this kid.

Anyway, he never really listened to me when it came to gear, I always told him to hold out for the better stuff instead of buying on first instinct as soon as he gets enough cash for something he saw on musiciansfriend that was "cool." So he finally listened to me and checked out the used market and played before he buyed and got a high quality instrument for a great price. He wound up selling his Epi LP and SG Special Faded and ending up with a 2001 LP Classic 3-pickup, black with gold hardware. Beautiful instrument, plays like a dream (neck is not my style, very thin, but hes a little kid with little hands so he likes it) and it sounds pretty good. Only noticeble problem was the neck pickup was way muddy, abnormally muddy for a ceramic pickup especially, I don't know what the deal with it was. I checked the knobs, adjusted the pole pieces and pickup height, tried it through a ton of amps with all settings, still not good. Muddy and just not that great sounding in general. So he ordered a zebra 59 in the neck. How do you think this will sound, especailly with the stock pickups in the middle and bridge (probably 496R, 500T). Also, if he ever decides to switch the middle and bridge pickups as well, which would u recomend? Well, first off, what do you do about the middle pickup? Does tht need to be custom wound or do u just use a standard neck or bridge pickup. Just wanted to share this story and throw out these few questions. Thanks for ure time guys
