'59 JB Pot Question

I just recently played a friends '59/JB strat style partscaster build and it convinced me to stop procrastinating and build one myself. However while playing his guitar i noticed something that i would like to avoid in my build. His partscaster only had one universal tone knob with a 300k pot. It sounded great with the JB but the neck pickup was really warm and it got really muddy with some gain.

So here's the question:

In my build, could I use a 300k tone pot for the bridge and, perhaps, a 500k tone pot for the neck to bring some back some brightness? If so what kind of pot would i want for the volume knob?

Thanks!

Re: '59 JB Pot Question

i have a great guitar that has two buckers and three knobs. neck volume, bridge volume, bridge tone. that setup works great for me. seldom do i ever want to roll the tone back on a neck pup

Re: '59 JB Pot Question

I am more concerned with getting a brighter tone from the ‘59 neck pickup. Could I use two differently rated pots in the same circuit?

Re: '59 JB Pot Question

Jeremy is telling you that you can have the neck pickup with any value tone pot you want, including no tone pot at all. Bridge = volume & tone, neck = volume only. That will be brighter than even a 500k pot, although the difference is not huge.
Yes, you can do exactly what you asked.

Re: '59 JB Pot Question

Oh okay sorry I read that wrong. I appreciate you clarifying that for me. Okay I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t screw anything up by doing that because I’m a wiring noob. Does the rating on the volume pot matter as much?

Re: '59 JB Pot Question

the value of the volume pot does matter and will influence both pups if its shared

Re: '59 JB Pot Question

Okay got it. Thank you for helping me out. I definitely thing I’ll do the bridge tone bridge volume neck volume setup then
