'59 Model Trembucker in the NECK position???

Hey guys, I need some help here...

I asked for a friend of mine to buy a '59 Model Trembucker for me to put in the NECK position of my guitar, I warned him to ask to the seller for a '59 Model Trembucker NECK!

But when I received the pickup I saw on the back of the little box: "Recommended for the bridge position". I thought that there were two kinds of '59 Model Trembucker... one for the Neck position and another to the bridge position... So there realy is two kinds or not?????

Another question: If I put this pickup on the NECK position it will sound nicely???

Thx everybody!

Re: '59 Model Trembucker in the NECK position???

Hey Wilds; welcome to the forum. I'm pretty sure that there's no such thing as a "neck" trembucker. The term trembucker specifically refers to being a bit wider to fit certain tremolo bridges. (As in string spacing.)

There are, of course, 59 neck and 59 bridge versions, they just wouldn't be called "trembuckers". ;)

Artie is correct. Trembuckers are only for the bridge position. You want a standard spaced neck model to put in the neck position.

Ow man!! Am I fuc**d?? My friend have bought the pickup and gave to me here in Brazil...

Is it possible to install a Trembucker on the NECK position???

Re: '59 Model Trembucker in the NECK position???

The Termbucker has a wider string spacing. If my math is correct the regular 59 has a string spacing of .400" The Trembucker 59 has a spacing of .414" 0.014" is not a hugh difference. We're talking about the thickness of a couple of sheets of paper. However, since all Trembuckers are designed for the bridge, they are all wound a little hotter than the standard pups. Balancing the output could be a little more difficult. It really depends on what you have in the bridge position.

The string spacing of the trembucker will effect some guitars more than others.
I don't think you're completely screwed. If you can't return it for a neck 59, then I say try it, you have nothing to lose.

Thanks for the reply...

I have bad luck!! I can't return the pickup for a SH-1 '59 NECK... I'll try to negotiate it here but I don't think that I can get what I need... so I think I'll have to put it on the neck position... I'm worried because this pickup sounds goods for harmonics and highs on the bridge position but on the neck it's a mistery for me!

On the brige position in my guitar there is a George Lynch Screamin' Demon

Re: '59 Model Trembucker in the NECK position???

Don't worry about it. The spacing won't really be an issue, as long as it's a Floyd or Fender guitar. As for a bridge in the neck position, you may be pleasantly surprised, since bridge pickups tend to sound pretty tight and focused. I know one thing for sure, you'll have a great neck solo tone. I actually put a 59 bridge in my Les Paul Custom's neck position, along with a C-5 in the bridge. Sounds great to me, especially on neck position solos.

Re: '59 Model Trembucker in the NECK position???

Vintage 59's (real pafs!) measure around 8.2K. The 59B or 59TB is about the same. I think you'll be fine. Kind of depends on the guitar though. In a Strat or guitar with the pickup mounted in the pickguard you can mod the pick guard rout to be a little wider with no harm done to the guitar. I wouldn't mount the Trembucker in a Les Paul or any guitar that uses a mounting ring though because the mounting ring for the TB is wider and if you change your mind and want to go to standard spaced neck humbucker you might have to fill the holes from when the TB was in there and that might be a little unsightly. Good luck!

Try it and see. I love pleasant surprises, don't you? Set it low.

Re: '59 Model Trembucker in the NECK position???

What a relieve!!!

hanks for the help guys since I don't have any experience with pickups in the "wrong" position....

But I'll try to sell it and buy the '59 Model to the neck position... If I can't sell it I'll put it onthe neck position and hear what I get!!

Thanks

What's in your bridge position? That's a great bridge pickup, and you may even like it better than whatever you're using in the bridge. Even in the neck, in a Floyd equipped or Fender style guitar, the 59 trem bridge will sound great.
Don't even sweat it, it's no big deal. That pickup will sound fine there. 59's sound good no matter where they're put.

Re: '59 Model Trembucker in the NECK position???

Yeah man this is good!! By the way my guitar is a Jackson with floyd rose, a Screamin' Demon onthe bridge and a Hotrails on the middle...so I wanted to put a '59 on the neck but my friend made a mistake and bought the '59 trembucker... now I'm in Brazil and I can't return the pickup. So your help and tips is to important to me

Thanks

It's good to know that... thanks man!

I hope that I won't have any problems with the size of the pickup

Re: '59 Model Trembucker in the NECK position???

Wilds welcome to the forum. In my opinion you have a nice bridge humbucker in the Demon. To my ears the Demon is very similar to a 59, so.... you will be pleasantly surprised at how nice the Demon is in the neck and you will have correct spacing all the way around. If the 59 isn't hot enough in the bridge you can add a ceramic magnet on the bottom of the pickup and it will give it more punch.

Re: '59 Model Trembucker in the NECK position???

Thanks man but the demon is already on the bridge position. On the neck position there is a Jackson pickup that I'll take off and put the '59 Trembucker that a friend bought to me thinking that it was a SH-1 '59 for neck position.

Ok guys this is crazy.. I AM going to put the trembucker in the neck of my strat. It will be paired with an invader in the bridge..

Man I enjoyed that trembucker on the guitar neck position for many years, until it stoped working. So I installed a DiMarzio D-Activator X Neck, but I found it so muddy... I even installed a mod that I found on seymour duncan blog to dampen the mudness, but it is still muddy. At least I can sort of balance with the other pickups now. I would take that 59 trembucker over this anytime . Good luck. I hope you like it.

Re: '59 Model Trembucker in the NECK position???

You'll be fine, they're just a couple turns hotter than the neck version, and the spacing won't matter. Some guitar manufacturers actually recommend trem-spaced humbuckers for the neck position, such as Ibanez which usually come with F-spaced neck dimarzios
