The 59 blows the Classic 57 away in my opinion..My scenario with the Classic 57 in the neck was that it was overbearing,woofy sounding,and dark...The bridge position C57 was harsh and bright...Sold both over E Bay...
I bought a 59N pickup that measured over 8k and put it in the bridge and it worked great...Basically you just need to adjust both pickups until you get the right balance between the 2....Back in 57 humbuckers weren't matched for volume or balance.The 2 pickups were placed into the guitar and there was a variance between the resistance readings of the 2 pickups..Now that variance is purposeful so that the bridge position has the higher output and more dc resistance reading compared to the neck...Anything goes though,and you can use your 59N in the bridge with no problem and have a great sounding pickup with great tone and note clarity...Try it and you'll see...I'm not a fan of the Classic 57s but alot of pros and other players love em..I only use Duncan humbuckers now..

I just put a standard spaced 59'
in the bridge of my floyd equipped alvarez scoop....it sounds great. The pole spacing is definately off....but from a tonal perspective it's not an issue. I actually have non trem-spaced buckers in both my trem guitars.
The 59' being wound slightly cooler than the normal bridge bucker sounds great to me. I've come to realize that for the most part I really prefer the lower output humbuckers to achieve the tone I'm looking for....and the 59' delivers. The bottom line for me is....if it sounds good and works for you, that's all that matters.
Someone here told me once that Seymour actually suggested taking a 59' and putting it in the bridge. That man knows tone for sure.

Then after reading the descriptions of the '59 and lover pickups and how they are similar it occurred to me that a '59N might be a cheaper way to go and still a little thicker bridge sound. I've got nickle cover '59N and was thinking about what to do for the other position...but it looks worth the chance to pick up another '59N and put the stronger of the two into the bridge.
I won't have custom shop LP like warren haynes to put them into but I'm way too big an ABB/Mule fan to not have decent humbucker guitar to mess around with.

Did that today...well it was quite good really.
Very defined and also very good crunch, but it will probally not work in a guitar that is less than good.
Because it is demands something of the player, but great sound, with both heavey and crunchy overdrive it sounds open and clear, you can hear your guitar very well through it all, and cleans are marvelous, together with an APH-1 neck it had great rythm tones, and balances neatly with that pu.
Output was about the same, sounded like old Gibson pickups(good ones).
So now I know that I can get an APH-1 bridge to work with my Wolfgang.

When I bought my '59n and '59b I tried reversing them. I liked the sound from the '59b in the neck but didn't like the '59n in the bridge. '59n sounded washed out and tonaly off. '59b just seemed to sing in the neck position. But being a traditionalist I put them in thier intended positions and am quite satisfied with the vintage tone my LP has now.

Truth is, alot of vintage 50's pafs are 8.2K or so...so using a 8.2K bridge 59B as a neck pickup should be fine! I prefer neck humbuckers of around 7.5K generally (like the 59N or Jazz N) for a brighter less woofy tone...but that's just personal taste. Lew

Well stuck the 59n in my strat today....man I take my guitar apart all the time
Balanced extremely well with the SSL-1's.
And the sound was just great, very fat and open...no annoying booming.
