'59 Neck plus A2 magnet =what???

I have a '59 neck, and no doubt it is a great pickup for soloing, but a little muddy for rythym. If I swap out the A5 for an A2, what would this do for the sound?
I will try it today, but I want to see if anybody likes this option anyway.
Would I be close to a Seth, if so, :cool3:

I believe it sounds like a potted Seth. Please let us know how it sounds or post clips! :dance:

I had one in my LP for a while. It definately took care of the muddiness. You will notice less lows and highs but you will get some very tasty mids. :)

It's a great sounding pickup for clean blues and jazz and really grows some fangs when pumped through an overdriven amp.

It's not exactly like any other pickup out there. It's smoother than a Pearly Gates, but has a bit more top than a Seth and isn't as creamy as an APH.

Duncan should (IMHO) make this into a production pickup. How about a '58 model? :burnout:

Tried and liked it a lot, so I popped it out and put the A5 magnet back in just to make sure that is what I really wanted to do. Tried the regular '59 again and immediately took it back out and put the A2 back in.
Totally awesome, very APH smooth, very sweet arpeggios and really nice leads. I like it a lot.

thanks for the update madstrummer ... any chance you could make a few clips of clean / gritty / overdriven for us to hear? ... sounds very cool indeed!

Uh gee, I am kinda low tech with this borrowed computer nowadays. So no clips.
I can say that the '59 was definitely a muddy situation in a mahogany guitar BUT the inbetween sounds and split coils were really nice. So that is the plus side of the A5 '59: more strat quack.
I also have a Custom 5 in the bridge and that also helps the split coil tones combined with the '59.
However, the overdriven and high gain leads of the A2 '59 remind me a lot of how my APH used to feel but it has just a little more top end. It really sings like an APH though. The regular A5 '59 just got lost in the mud when high gain was used. No definition. Again, this is in a full mahogany guitar, so YMMV.
So...If you like the smooth APH, you will no doubt love the A2 '59 neck especially in a mahogany axe.

I'm down to the Seth and the APH for the neck of a Paul. Is the Seth very very creamy? I love Slash's tone, but I just don't know. I would think the APH would go well (since it's scooped) with the Custom Custom (high mids).
