59 or Anico Pro II

Can you folks give me a comparison of these two pickups? I assume that the 59 with its A5 mag has more bass & treble, and the Pro II with the A2 mag is more middy. Can anyone tell me more?

Re: 59 or Anico Pro II

It depends on the instrument but Generally I much prefer the 59 or even then the PG over the A2 Pro these days for neck positions. In my PRS and strat the A2 Pro was very loose and flabby in the lows. It worked great in the neck of my Washburn though.

I like both pickups. The Alnico II Pro is very warm sounding, but it does not have outrageous mids, like the JB. The bottom end, as well as the high end is not as defined as in the '59. For fat, singing leads, I would go for the A2 Pro. For a more versatile pickup that will do both ryhthm and leads well, I would go with the 59. Personally, i like to play ryhthm on the bridge or middle positions, and I like the neck for leads.

What type of sound are you looking for?

The A2 pro seems thicker to me compare to the '59. I had them in the same guitar. I sold the '59. The a2 pro responds to picking more. You hear more nuances.

Never played on a Alnico II Pro, but with my experience with a '59 (in a Mahogany LP), it is quite bass-heavy, light on the mids (but still present), and the highs are definetely well rounded in the mix. To me, a more bass-mid heavy pickup. Very smooth sounding.
