Say which value Pots would you use for both volume & tone with a '59 in an alder strat with rosewood fretboard? It's going to be a concentric pot so both values will be the same.. either 250k or 500k for both.
thanks

I'd go with 500k. Seems to open up the sound a bit. That's just my opinion though.

You almost have to just try them and see. I have 250k pots in my dual 59 equiped axe. But I'm going for the bluesy/jazzy vibe. I love it. ;)

Hmmm I like the quite bright sound... but I'm afraid it might get too bright with 500k pots...

In a strat 250k. In a LP / PRS type intrument it would depend on the instrument.

I have 59B Trembucker pickups in two Strats. 500K pots!

I tried 250K and the tone was muffled. No sparkle. Didn't like 250K at all.

250K is appropriate for single coils...not paf style humbuckers, IMO.

That said, Seymour does use 250K pots in the Tele-Gib with a Jazz neck and JB bridge.

250K didn't sound good to me in my guitar though. Muffled.

Re: '59 question: 250k or 500k pots for volume & tone?

I personally always use 250k pots. No matter what pickups, or guitar its in. Because to me anything ran through 500k sounds way to bright. But that could just be my ears.

But sumthing I would recommend to try is this.

Take a 250k pot, Wire it up, and test it out. Then try a 500k pot and do the same. With the pickups yer gonna be useing, and just decide which you like best. And then after you decide whice ya like best buy the duel-cont. pot.
But ya may also wanna try the treble bleed mod on a 250k also, cause to me it seems to Brighten up a 250k a bit (not as bright as a 500k though). So it may give ya a nice middle ground if ya feel 250k is to dark, and 500k is too bright.

I guess what I'm saying is just experiment before you make any decisions. Cause my advice (or anyone else's) is Biased based onpersonal preference. And truthfully Tone is such a subjective thing that makeing decisions based solely on the opinion of sumone else isn't all that smart. The only person that can tell you which you'll like best, is you. So experiment if ya can....Ed
