'59N in the bridge

and it works great!

I have a custom wound A5 PAF neck pickup that I love in the neck of my LP and I while I am waiting for the bridge pickup to match I threw in a '59N that I had here. The '59N is slightly lower in output than the custom wind but they work so well together I might cancel my order for the other pickup.

I've really been digging on a few lower output pickups lately they just sound so much better to my ears these days. I was really surprised with this setup they seem a perfect set. I might put a pair of '59N's in another guitar I have because of this, nice accident I gotta say. Who knew?

Re: '59N in the bridge

The DiMarzio PAF Master bridge has a DC resistance it the mid 7k range also, and it sounds great too.

DiMarzio has always been more about mixing and matching pickups in the neck and bridge spots, while Seymour Duncan has been more about saying this pickup is for necks, this pickup is for bridges. Especially with the Antiquity Strat sets, they're hot bridge pickups are crazy hot, so I just end up putting another beck pickup in the bridge.

Re: '59N in the bridge

I've had a number of Gibsons with the old Shaw humbuckers; they average right around 7K and sound great in either position.

Re: '59N in the bridge

I rocked a 59'N in the bridge of my LP back in 06'. I loved it too. Welcome to the future.

Re: '59N in the bridge

Long time ago I called Seymour and asked what humbucker would be the best choice as a bridge pickup in my Strat with stock Strat neck and middle pickups. He said either a 59N or a JazzN.

Eddie Van Halen seems to favor a bridge pickup with lower DCR than his neck pickup these days.

Re: '59N in the bridge

Does the Blues 59 set have 4 wires to allow for coil splitting? I see they are one of the more affordable sets SD offers.

You can get them in 4-conductor, but the 59 set is also commonly sold as 2-conductor. Make sure you buy the right one.

Re: '59N in the bridge

FWIW, I once bought a '59B that I strongly believe was mislabeled. It read 7.7K on my multimeter and was VERY low output. I sold it, and replaced it with a '59B which reads 8.4K. Honestly, I like the stronger '59B better, personally. Then again, I don't really play clean or blues or anything like that. Each to his own.

Allen Holdsworth used a dual screw 59n in the bridge.

Indeed, he did, and I think he liked it better than the signature pickups from Carvin at the time. While he always had amazing tone, his 59n he used was certainly his best.

Sound like an undercharged magnet might have been to blame.

the 59n is a great crunchy rhythm pup in the bridge, betcha it sounds great though a cranked ac15

do you find the custom bridges crazy hot? i really dont. a little thicker in the mids and less open on the high end but the output doesnt seem crazy at all

Did you get that pickup new?

Trust me I don't know "clean" guitar sounds lol

Thats because (once again) he's using DCR not output as a gauge. They are wound with 43AWG, so they really read a lot lower.......8k if the same turns were applied to 42.

Re: '59N in the bridge

Wait, I thought the 59n (and several other Duncan models) were just the same bridge pickup but with longer lead wires. Is there something different about the 59n than the 59b besides length of leads?

Yes. The neck version is wound lighter- it's wound to about 7.6K where the 59Bs average around 8.25K.
