59n mag swap . Fine tuning

Heya

So still trying to fine tune my 59n to match my warpig.

Had an a4 wasn't really working so put the a5 back in and its close, very close.

I'd just like to take a touch of the sharpness out of the highs and a touch more in the mids. A4 was a bit too flat eq wise all round to work well with he pig.

Tried height adjustments of the 59n and to get the treble where I want it it's a bit too far away and loses presence I like in the rest of the tone.

A2 or a3 are they good options ? I have a rc uoa5 that a mate is borrowing at the moment. I could reclaim that if it's a possible but I haven't really seen it mentioned as a neck mag before.

A2 sounds like what you want, it will roll off some highs, add mids and tame the boomy low end.

Re: 59n mag swap . Fine tuning

If a4 did not work out for your needs, I would not recommend going to a2s and a3s... To me it looks like a degaussed a5 is what you are looking for. And rc uoa5 might work for you, its tone and eq is a bit different than a regular a5. It is a bit "softer". I am a big fan of a4s, instead of them rc uoa5's. You gotta see it for yourself...

BTW, when you tried an a4, you have tried various height adjustments and pot values and all, right? They make hell of a difference...

Hope this helps.

What you're describing is a RC A5 (not UOA5, which is much warmer). If you need one, PM me.

Re: 59n mag swap . Fine tuning

thanks all

its a 1 vol 1 so diffeen pot isnt really an option. I need 500 for the bridge

funnily enough after posting I tried disconnecting the tone pot just to see what it sounded like. it didint make the 59n any brighter but opened up the bridge a little more and it seems to gel a bit better now where it sounded like 2 different guitars before

blueman thanks for the offer. you sent me my 1st mags a couple years ago .

you got me thinking. in the ones you sent me I figured it was a roughcast UOA5 . but maybe its a standard RCA5. how would I tell the difference

Only by what Addiction FGX wrote on it, which isn't always easy to read.

yeah . I couldnt read what was on it when I got it . I'll chuck it and see . it may be the ticket

Both will have 'A5' on them. You have to discern whether the other part is UO or RC. Felt tip pens on rough surfaces can be tricky, especially if you're writing on hundreds of mags in a session.

A2's in 59N's are incredible.

I agree, but it's definitely a different pickup. You have to be able to handle the smoother highs. For my tastes, it just lost a little too much bite, although I liked it for a long time. I really think the 59n may just like the Alnico 4 best.
